Hotel Essenza is one of the Green Key Hotels in Belgium
Green Key Hotel
Hotel Essenza received the internationally recognised Green Key sustainability label. Sustainable enjoyment without sacrificing comfort.
An international seal of approval
Green Key is an international programme of the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), coordinated in Flanders by GoodPlanet Belgium. The programme operates in more than 3,200 sites in 65 countries.
The label assesses organisations in several sustainability domains: water and energy consumption, food, waste and staff and guest education. This makes it one of the most comprehensive sustainability standards in the tourism industry.
Our approach
Breaking the trend
“A hotel is generally a wasteful environment, but we have been able to break this trend,” Sven Peeters said. By actively involving guests in our environmental efforts, we make sustainability a shared responsibility.
For us, Green Key is more than a certificate. It is a conscious decision to reduce our impact on the environment without sacrificing comfort or experience. Sustainability is woven into every aspect of our hotel.
Our sustainable initiatives
Concrete measures for a greener future
Solar panels
We generate our own electricity with solar panels on the roof. This way, we reduce our dependence on the electricity grid.
Local products
Our breakfast and dinner consist of local and organic products. Short chain, fresh quality and support for local producers.
Waste policy
A far-reaching sorting and waste policy ensures that we produce as little residual waste as possible and maximise recycling.
Charging posts
Electric vehicles can recharge with us. This is how we support guests who choose sustainable transport.
Water saving
Water-saving taps and shower heads in all rooms reduce water consumption without loss of comfort.
Energy-efficient
LED lighting and energy-efficient equipment throughout the hotel. Smart systems automatically switch off lighting.
Sustainable together
Sustainability is a shared responsibility. That is why we actively involve our guests in our environmental efforts. From towel policies to tips for sustainable activities in the region.
Our team also receives regular education on sustainability. This way, everyone knows why we make certain choices and how we can contribute together to a better environment.
